These specially designed sarees, after months of astrological research, are said to keep you draped in all the luck you want for health, wealth and happiness and prosperity.Call them ''zodiac'' or ''rasi kundalini'' sarees. Based on your month of birth, be it Hindu or English calendar, sarees have been designed with prints of respective zodiac signs, birth stones against a background of a suitable, astro-related colours. In all, there are 12 different types of printed silk sarees designed for the 12 different zodiac signs.
Priced at Rs 2,000 per saree, the pilot launch of the first 1,500 sarees will be on sale at Priyadarshini''s Jayanagar, Jayamahal and Ulsoor outlets of Priyadarshini. "Zodiac sarees have a huge market in the state. We will introduce these sarees in other outlets of the state once we are successful with the first phase of our experiment," Karnataka State Handloom Development Corporation managing director Madan Gopal said.
It was in May this year that the State Handloom Corporation consulted noted astrology and vastu consultant Daivagna K.N. Somayaji. "It took me a couple of weeks to work on 12 different astro-combinations. Such combinations and designs bring good luck and fortune on special days like festivals and birthdays. With the festival season fast approaching, these sarees will hit the market in a big way."
Absolute reds and blacks have been avoided. Saree pallus and borders display a carefully researched combination of specific colours, gems, flowers, animal symbols and geometric signs.
If Aries (mesha) are fiery red sarees with combinations of copper, pink, deep brown and golden yellow, cancer (kataka) is light pink with friendly combinations of light blue, yellow and dark blue. If some have sheep and triangles printed on the sarees, others have crabs and half moons on them.
